THE DUSTBIN CASE
In 1925 the case of Dennistoun v Dennistoun rocked British society.
It was a messy divorce case ( over maintenance and money ) fought bitterly over 17 days in the High Court in the Strand, London, between Lieutenant-Colonel Ian Onslow Dennistoun, as defendant, and his ex-wife Dorothy Muriel Dennistoun, born Dorothy Webster, as the plaintiff.
Dorothy brought the action against Ian Dennistoun, a retired Army officer, to recover £1300 she advanced him for bills and loans during their marriage. She also claimed damages for breach of a verbal contract for maintenance.
